1 John 3:3 - July 26
"And everyone who has this hope [resting] on Him cleanses (purifies) himself just as He is pure (chaste, undefiled, guiltless)." 1 John 3:3
Hallelujah and amen!!! This is what we, as God's people are supposed to do, those who are filled with the hope of Christ Jesus within us, we are to 'cleanse' ourselves. We are to walk pure, without sin, just as He is pure without sin. Just because we are washed with the blood of the Lamb that does not mean that there is not a cleansing that needs to go on continually. This verse in Scripture says that everyone without (all without exception!) who has this hope (Christ in you, the hope of glary) on Him (Christ Jesus) himself (herself). Cleanses" denotes an ongoing action meaning that you can't just wash yourself once and you're done. You have to keep on washing yourself whenever uncleanness (sin) comes upon you or around you. Shake off this dirt and strive to not allow it to touch you. Let the blood of the Lamb bee a continual "shower" going on in your heart by renewing your mind to His. It is better to be aware of how you have been cleansed by His blood and to strive to say clean (chase, undefiled, guiltless) as He is pure. The more you renew your mind with His you will find that you don't need to wash (repent with a contrite heart) as often as before!
Let us strive to take on the characteristics of our Lord, to walk in His footsteps that we might bring honor to Him and to His Father, thus showing the world that we truly are His children. Amen? amen!
