"Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)" Romans 5:12-17

These verses in Romans makes it very clear how the disobedience of Adam and Eve brought sin into the world and through sin, death came. This sin spread to all men. These verses said even though others didn't sin like Adam did, Adam was a type of Him who was to come. In other words, Adam was the first man upon the earth and by his actions the rest of mankind was affection.

But in Jesus, God gave us a gift, a gift of grace that was different then the offense/sin that Adam did, resulting in condemnation. The free gift, given to those who receive it, and who were in offenses before God, results in justification through Christ. You see, we have a choice to stay under the first Adam, living by the flesh and the sin nature or we can receive Jesus as our Lord and through Him become a new creation, as is talked about in 2 Corinthians 5:17 ("Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have been made new.."winking smiley.

In 1 Corinthians 15:45 we read, "And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." This very clearly shows the distinction between the first man, Adam, that God created being "a living soul" or we can receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and have a new birth, whereby we become like Him, "a quickening spirit." We can live according to that soul man who lives by the flesh and sin nature. That is how we are born into this world through our earthly parents. Or we can choose to become a new creation in Christ, receiving Him as our Lord and King, allowing the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us in the Lord's ways and by so doing we also have a heavenly Father who longs to talk with us, walk in the garden, so to speak, as He did with Adam before his act of disobedience thus separating himself from his Creator.

Have you chosen Jesus as your Lord and Savior? How much authority do you/I give Him in our lives. In this eighth month of the year, knowing that "8" stands for "new beginning", let us open our hearts to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to show us who this new creation in Christ is supposed to be in our lives and how much we have really allowed Him to be in it. Together, let us draw closer to Him...
