Making Words From the Books of the Bible - July 16, 2007

Hi all,

So far we have worked with these books of the Bible:

Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy
Joshua
Judges

Now we are going to go into the book of Ruth. Though it is a very short book in the Bible, it tells of a very loving and devoted woman who forsook all to stand beside her mother-in-law after the passing of her husband and mother-in-law's son. Perhaps you kids can ask one of your parents to read it to you. The book of Ruth shows the blessings God gives to those who are faithful and upright before Him. While only a couple of words can be made from the book of Ruth, there is much that can be learned from her life and her faithfulness.

Now, this weeks Book of the Bible:

Good morning!

Don't know about you, but I couldn't only find two words from this past week's book of the Bible: Ruth

1. rut

2. Hur

Funny how these two words seem to be kind of opposite of each other. A "rut" is what we get into when we just stand still and do nothing, keeping to the 'same ole, same ole." But "Hur" is the name given to one who stood beside Moses during the fight against the Amalekites. He lifted one of Moses' arms up as did Aaron do the other arm for his brother Moses (Exodus 17). As long as Moses' arms were lifted up, the Israelites would be on the winning side. When Moses' arms feel down, the Amalekites would win. So Hur was not one to just stand still and do nothing. He helped out Moses to obtain the victory for his people. Interesting, huh?

God bless you and may you be one who is willing to stand beside another and help them 'lift their arms' in time of battle.
