Books covered so far:

Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy
Joshua
Judges
Ruth
1 Samuel
2 Samuel
1 Kings
2 Kings
1 Chronicles
2 Chronicles
Ezra
Nehemiah

Today’s books of the Bible are Esther and Job. Both these books reveal two people who were obedient to the will of God. Esther, a woman, saves a nation through her obedience. Job, a man, fights the good fight of faith with all of its trials and in the end is rewarded double for his faithfulness.

Esther was written some time shortly after 465 B.C. It is at a time when the Jewish people were scattered throughout the ancient world after the Babylonian exile. While God’s name is never mentioned in Esther there is no doubt that His presence is there, working His plans through a young woman named Esther who was born “for such a time as this.”

The date of the writing of Job is uncertain but many scholars believe it was written about 950 B.C. and is one of the only books that speaks so clearly on the battle that takes place in the heavenly realm, God verses the adversary. God trusts in us (man) more that we know. He knows we can win over darkness as we trust in Him. Satan thinks that if he brings enough trials into our lives, man will turn away from God. In Job we see where the devil used men, supposed friends of Job, to bring further discouragement to him. How often in our own lives do we see where friends and family, never mind strangers will add further injury to the things going on in our lives. The encouragement found in Job is that God will reward those who remain faithful to Him.
