This week’s book of the Bible is Obadiah. The prophesies in this book cover a time of over a thousand years and yet is the shortest book in the Old Testament! Obadiah is a prophet of God who speaks out against the Edom, condemning them for their sins against God and Israel. The Edomites are descendants of Esau and the Israelites are the descendants of his twin brother, Jacob. This is a battle between brother and brother that carried down to their descendants and lasted over 1,000 years. It is an issue of pride that caused one brother to sin against another and in so doing, sin against God. Let us always remember how important family is to God and though He might appear to give favor to one brother or sister it is only because of their obedience to God that puts them in a position of favor from Him. God is not a respecter of people but He will honor those who honor Him.
