This week’s book of the Bible is Zechariah. This book was written over an extended period of time. It is believed that the first 8 chapters were written between 520 and 518 B.C. covering the time of the rebuilding of the Temple and then chapters 9-14 were written between 480 and 470 B. C. which covers about ten years after the Temple was completed. Zechariah is the son and grandson of those who returned to Jerusalem after being exiled from there. The first part of this book Zechariah shares his night visions to the people which brings comfort to those who are rebuilding the Temple and also judgment to those who are walking in disobedience to God. This book of the Bible includes prophecies of the Messiah, including the righteous Branch; the Triumphal Entry on the colt of a donkey; the betrayal for 30 silver coins; the potter's field; and the piecing of the Good Shepherd. Please keep in mind, this book of Zechariah was written over 500 years before Jesus came to earth! The Bible is surely an awesome book given to us by God. Bless His Holy Name!
