"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins," Ephesians 2:1

It is very important for us to understand our need of Jesus or else we will lose all that God intends for us to have and know in Him. Jesus isn't about a religion. He is about our Heavenly Father longing to have a relationship He once had with His creation in the garden, a relationship that was lost because of disobedience. Its about God's unending love for us and Him working out a plan for our redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ. Its about mercy and grace extended to those who weren't worthy of it. No, its not about religion. Its about God's love for mankind and the ultimate price He was willing to pay to have them restored back to Him.

Ephesians 2:1 tells us that we once were "dead in trespasses and sins." When did this begin? It began in the garden when the serpent beguiled Eve and she ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil as did her husband. In Genesis 2:17 God had given commanded Adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil for if he eats of it, God tells him, "you will surely die." As we know, Adam and Eve did not obey God but rather allowed temptation to win out over obedience to Him. A part of them did die that day and though they drew breathe, they were dead in their trespasses and sins. Only through Jesus Christ can we be made new again, changed from the man of flesh into a new creation in Christ where the old nature dies and the old passes away and all things are made new, as we submit ourselves to Him. As mentioned in previous posts, it is a process that takes place the more we allow that old nature to die and being open to God's Word, His Son and His Holy Spirit.

It is my prayer today that you will see how much you need Jesus as Lord and Savior, that you will recognize that because of our human nature we are dead in trespasses and sin and without Jesus we are alienated from God throughout eternity. Oh yes, we need Jesus. And we need to recognize how much our Heavenly Father loves us. Let us receive all He desires to give us and let us be thankful for His love and forgiveness shown to us on the cross.
