Read Through the Bible in Three Months

October 4 - Matthew 10 - 11

In today's reading we see that Jesus commissions and instructs His twelve disciples. Interestingly, the number 12 signifies "perfection of government." Jesus called forth His Apostolic government with these disciples with Him as the Head over it. Could it be that by this commissioning Jesus now had "a place to lay His head (Matthew 8:20)? There were these imperfect men who were willing to lay down their lives, their possessions, even the things they once did, to follow Him They were His body of believers - just as we are called to be!

So, what did He instruct them to do? What is the same instructions for us today? Here it is:

"Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure the lepers, and cast out
demons. Give as freely as you have received."
Matthew 10:7-8

He went on to say much more about what they should take with them, what is expected from those who they help, etc,, etc. as well as the challenges along the way. They faced imprisonment. Let us examine our lives and see how faithful we, as His body, have been to do our part as the body of Christ. Its time the Amercian church be honest with itself and recognize what Jesus has called us to be and to do. Imprisonment? Many in the church are upset with God if we don't get favor with a parking spot! Lord, please forgive us.

Continue to read today's Scripture. Take special note of Matthew 11:16-19. It is kind of representative to what we see taking place in our nation. The man who is wise in his own eyes will see what he wants to see to support his way of thinking. Holy One, may we come to You as little children and please help us to see as You see, speak as You speak and help us to humble ourselves to Your will in Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.
