Read New Testament in Three Months

October 20 - Luke 1

Luke, unlike the other Gospels, is not written by a Jewish disciple of Jesus but rather by a Gentile physician who was a missionary companion of the Apostle Paul and was written between 58 and 70 A.D. It was written to the Greeks but also it would apply to all Gentiles to help them know Him who gave His life for all mankind - not to the Jews alone.

Luke 1 opens as a letter to Luke's friend, Theophilus, and goes on to share the wonders and joyous events that had taken place taking among them, starting with the angel, Gabriel, coming to Zacharius and saying that he and his wife, Elizabeth, would conceive a child who would return the hearts of the fathers to the sons and who would prepare the way of the Lord. It is a wondrous chapter to read, to meditate on and see the perfect hand of God moving to bring about the birth of His Son, Jesus Christ, to be a redeemer to all people. Consider the supernatural in this chapter: an angel appearing to man; Zacharious and Elizabeth beyond the age of bearing children become pregnant; and a young girl becoming pregnant by the Holy Spirit - no man involved! Amazing! Why do we not read all of God's Word with supernatural/spiritual eyes to behold all He has for us? Open our eyes, Holy One, to behold Your ways and will for us individually and corporately as the body of Christ we pray. Amen.
