Read New Testament in Three Months

October 27 - Luke 14 - 16

Once again, a wealth of wisdom offered via God's Word. How amazing and merciful He is, giving us an opportunity to know those things that can cause us harm and the things that will bless us is we walk according to His will and ways. Thank You, Father, for this priceless Bible we hold. May we eat of it daily and digest the rich nutrients for our spirits, in Jesus' Name.

Throughout the Gospels we see where the Pharisees try to find fault with what Jesus does. Our Lord is more than able to set them straight in their thinking but it doesn't make Him a friend to most Pharisees for Jesus is shaking their very authority and position that they had held so long with the Jewish people.

In these chapters of Luke we find warnings and wisdom being offered to the people who are listening, things that are important for us to know today. In Like 14:26 where Jesus says we are to hate mother and father He means that we are to put God first. If our parents don'k love or believe in God, we are not to be persuaded by them to turn away from Him. God is to take first place in our lives and we are being in formed by Jesus that there will be some in our lives who will try to usurp God's rightful position with us.

Chapter 16 of Luke talks about a rich man who finds his manager had squandered his master's possessions and owed him a lot of money. The manager, knowing he can not possible pay back what he owes and seeing how he doesn't want to beg for the master's mercy, he goes about to his master's debtors trying to win their favor by telling the, rather than paying the full amount of what they owe his master, if they pay right then he will reduce the amount of their debt. This action was very shrewd but it was done for him to be favored by these men, not with the master in mind. Jesus warns us, if we compromise what is truly owed to God just to win men's favor then we are not worthy to receive the blessings and position that God desires for us in His Kingdom.

These are things to seriously consider. How well are we representing our Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus daily in our lives?
