Read the New Testament in Three Months

November 2 - John 4 - 5

We read in John 4 Jesus' encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. It was not the custom for Jews to talk to Samaritan's especially a man to a women. The Samaritan's were looked down upon because of their false faith. Yet Jesus asks her for  water from the well. She is taken off guard by His request and questions why He asks her for this. He responds that If she had known who she was speaking,  she would of asked Him to draw water for her as He is the  Living Waters from which we will not thirst. There is such a sweet exchange between these two as they both engage in conversation, After Jesus reveals to her that He knows things about her she perceives He is a prophet. Jesus shares that God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. She runs to tell the people in her town about Jesus and all He said to her. She becomes a woman evangelist as the town's people left where they were to find this man called Jesus!

What an amazing show of Jesus' love, kindness and caring is revealed through this encounter. The Pharisees would have looked down upon this woman for many reasons yet Jesus was not repulsed by who she was. He knew her life and did not reject her like the Jewish people would have. That's our Jesus! He came first for the Jews and was mostly rejected by Him and He also came for the Gentile, coming to give the opportunity for the lost to receive salvation through Him. The Samaritan woman was so touched by all Jesus had to say that, like an evangelist, she shared this news to her town's people. There must have been something this woman said or good she had done in the town to have the respect of the people to take what she as worthy and true. People of God, let us never judge another because of hearsay or because they are different than us. Let us walk in love and share Him with all people. You never know when you might be speaking to someone who will draw hundreds, maybe even thousands to Christ Jesus. Hallelujah!!!
