Read the New Testament in Three Months
November 3 - John 6 - 8
We read much about eating in the first two chapters in today's reading. The first eating takes place when the crowds are feed with the five loaves and two fish with 12 baskets left over after all were fed - thousands of people. What a miracle. for sure. What was impressed upon me in this, first Jesus gave thanks to His Father for the food and, in turn, the food was multiplied. Is that not true even today. When we give thanks to God for whatever small amount we have and use it for His glory, do we not see it multiply before us, whether it be food, money, time, talents? We can never out do God. As we are faithful to Him, He is even more faithful to us! As we are obedient to His will, He honors us back in some way, some know some not known until we get to Heaven.
Can you imagine being with the crowds when Jesus said to drink His flesh and drink His blood.. What a strange and ungodly thing that sounds to be. But when we stop to think that Jesus is the written Word come to life we understand that as we read His Word, consuming the truth and beauty that is found there, thirsty after the core of Who He is and what He told us about Himself and His Father, we become fed spiritually and grow in the things of God! Jesus wasn't talking about physical flesh and blood, He was talking about spiritual food that is found in the Written Word for those who desire to eat of it. Will you be one of them? Will you hunger and thirst after righteousness, drinking from the well of Living Waters? Lord, increase our appetite for more of You, in Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.
