December 1 - Galatians 1 - 3

Galatians was written between 49 and 55 A.D. by the Apostle Paul. At the time of this writing there were more Jewish believers than Gentile ones and as the Gentiles came into the church the Jewish believers wanted them to follow some of the laws and traditions that were followed by the Jews for centuries. Paul writes this letter to bring correction in doing this and to remind them that it was Jesus' sacrifice on the cross that sanctifies us and it is by grace that we are saved. It is a reminder to us to not add religious beliefs in our following Christ that are brought in by man and not by the Spirit of God.

Praise be to God! What a glorious read we find in today's reading as Paul, born a Jew and deeply religious in the Jewish teachings and ways, shares with the Galatians that, through Christ, we are no longer under the Law nor should we force others to follow it as their means of salvation for it is by Christ alone we are saved. No one was able to follow every demand of the Law and, the truth is, the promise of salvation was given to Abraham for the Jews to look forward to! It is faith Abraham had in God that was counted as righteousness, long before Jesus died on the cross. (Galatians 3:16-18)  Praise be to God! Feed on these Scriptures as you consider that it is by faith that touches the heart of God. The Word says that without faith it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) Let us not take in vain what Jesus accomplished upon the cross and in His resurrection and try to claim it is our good works that save us, which it is not! the Law was written so that man would understand what sin was and come to understand the effect of that sin upon our lives and the lives of others. It was to make us aware of our need of a Savior and, through Abraham, remind us that God had promised to send that Savior when the time was right. Praise You, Holy One. Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness to our Heavenly Father. Let us strive to be faithful to Him in our daily walk, in Your sweet Name we pray. Amen.
