25 Days of Christmas - Day 3

"For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking places which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]." Ephesians 2:10

Today we are going to expound even further on the Scripture given yesterday praying that these words will sink deep into our being and become truth in every aspect of our lives. We are God's handiwork, His workmanship, His family. How incredible is that! Praise be to God! Thank You Father for creating us as You have. Thank You Jesus for restoring us back to the family of God by Your shed blood, cleansing us and making us whole, "born anew" into the DNA of our Creator. Hallelujah!!!

Many of us have heard the expression, "God don't make junk!" How true this is, as we can see by this verse in Ephesians. We are His workmanship and it is God's plan that we do good works which He predestined for us to do. While we might know this is true, many times it is difficult to place ourselves in the role of doing good works either because we do not truly understand what it means to be God's children or because the world has so beaten us down that it is hard to get up and walk in the fullness of what God has preordained for us.

On the 1st of this month there was a reference made to a commercial which a young boy gave his Mom a gift - his report card with good grades on it. The boy did not hand the "good works" report with fear in his eyes because he had failed to do good in the past. Rather, there was a joy and even a shyness (humility?) to which he gave this "gift" to his Mom. If we recall, this commercial was an advertisement for some kind of educational tool that helped this young boy learn and come to the place of "progress". God has given us a means in which to progress. We have been sent the Holy Spirit as our Comforter and our Teacher. Yet there is something more that we can gleam God's Word and that commercial and that it was and is God's love that even brought us to being, just as it was the boy's family's love that encouraged him not to give up, that worked towards the goal of giving him help and, foremost, seeing his potential and not giving up on him. Is this not what God's view is of us, loving us so that He does not give up on us, providing a means which we can grow in Him because He sees the potential He has placed in us? Oh Lord, how good is Your love! Thank You, Holy One.

To those who have tasted God's love and know His goodness the before mentioned words touch our hearts and we are able to move forward in Him. But those who have known His love, those who have been so beaten down or who have attempted to "earn His love" only to find themselves failing, are still left with a void and a sense of shame, frustration and perhaps even anger. It is our belief that we cannot grow into the fullness of our preordained works unless we come to know the fullness of our heavenly Father's love for us. It is our prayer that in the days ahead you/we might come to know His love in a greater measure than ever before and that we all will become firmly rooted in the vine that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
