December 8 - 2 Thessalonians 1 -3
2 Thessalonians was written a few months after Paul had sent his first one to the believers in Thessalonica at about 51 A.D. Paul is concerned that they either misunderstood what he had to say in the first letter to them or that someone might have forged a letter to them saying it was from Paul. Many are not laboring for the Lord, thinking that Christ is coming soon so they can just take it easy. That can be very dangerous and is definitely how we are to walk. Sounds kind of familiar to those today who think they will be raptured up with Christ and do not have to worry about the coming judgment. In the meantime, many who could have been told about our Lord Jesus Christ are not hearing the message of His salvation and new birth because many are only thinking about themselves. There is an expression, "stinky thinking" and that is what that is. Jesus didn't come just we can receive personal sanctification and redemption through Him but so we could share this Good News to others. Amen? Amen. The Bible speaks about faith without works is dead. Faith and works go together. If we are failing in either one, we need to consider if we are actually His for if we are, there will be a change that takes place in us and we will hold others more highly then ourselves. Paul's warning is for them to stay diligent to follow after the ways that had been taught to them by Paul and other disciples, not wavering from them. To know that when Christ returns, it will be at His time and not man's thus it is not something we need to worry about. We are called to continue on in good works not just in Paul's time but today as well. That is why it is so important today for the people of God to know Him Who is the Truth and the Word who walked the earth. Before He comes. the son of perdition will be prevailing upon the earth. Does it not seem that he is here today, stirring up his evil plans? But even in this, we need not worry for we have a faithful God who will repay our faithfulness with His goodness. Let us keep our eyes upon Him who loves us and then allow His love to fill us to overflowing that we can present it to others. So let it be in Jesus' Name we pray.
