Read New Testament in Three Months

December 14 - Hebrews 8 - 10

In these chapters we read about the new covenant given to us through Jesus Christ, a better one than the first one. It is shown that the Law, the first covenant, also required that blood be offered up as a sacrifice before God, but where it was only the priest that was able to go into the Holy of Holies where as with this new covenant, it is available to all those who believe on Him who God sent. It is through Jesus that we can come to the Holy of Holies, so to speak, to come before our Creator. The first covenant was a sign of what was to come in a far better promise to man than the one given through the Law. Had the Law been perfect, there would not have been a need for another one, one that was foretold to be one in which God would show mankind mercy for their sins (Hebrews 8:8-13.

We read how we are to teach these truths to others, letting them know that they need not die in their sins, nor should they walk in them because we have been given a greater covenant through Christ Jesus and to where God's will shall be written upon their hearts, enabling them to turn from their sins and to walk not by the flesh but by the Spirit of God that lives and abides in us because of Jesus' sacrifice. How amazing is that? We must be careful and respectful to what has been given to us through the shed blood of our Lord so that we do not fall back into the ways of the Law, judging one another by it for the second covenant is perfect and it overrides the first covenant. Please be aware, that does not mean that we can sin because of Jesus' sacrifice and there will be no consequences of our actions. Remember when Jesus was upon the earth and Jesus forgave them their sin, He also said "go and sin now more." Throughout the New Testament we are told to become holy as He is holy, to turn from our sins and sin no more, to be transformed by the renewing of our mind through Christ Jesus and these are not suggestions. This is what we are supposed to do when we walk with Jesus and it is available for us to do so because of the Holy Spirit leaving in us. It might take a long time to reach these goals but it is a possibility. God is so desiring a relationship with His people that He made a way for us to come back to Him. In His timing He sent Jesus that we might be restored back in fellowship. Jesus became the blood sacrifice, once and for all, for all mankind to be return back to God. It is in and with faith that we believe this to have transpired through His Son and His blood sacrifice. Jesus, the perfect sacrifice. Praise be to God!.
