25 Days of Christmas - Day 19

"Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily." 1 Corinthians 13:4

In John 15:17 Jesus speaks these words, "This is what I command you: that you love one another." He was not making a suggestion, He was giving forth a commandment. Now we are going to spend some time on grasping a greater understanding of the godly love Jesus was speaking about in this verse, the love we are to show one to another, the love He showed towards us. Verse 13:4 of Corinthians shows us that love is patient and kind, it doesn't just give up on someone but hangs in there seeing beyond the circumstances looking at the hope and promise in another. When we walk in love we are to see the Christ in those who are our brothers and sisters in Christ and to the unsaved world we are to love them as Jesus loved them and desired that they be saved.

Love is not envious of another's blessings or giftings but rejoices at the hand of God touching another's life. Love does not brag in what it has nor seeks to draw glory to oneself. Jesus' love for the Father and us brought Him to a place of lowliness upon the earth so that man could be raised up in the heaven lies through Him. He claimed no glory for Himself. When Jesus was called "Good Master" by a rich young ruler, He responded back to him with, "Why callest thou me good: there is none good but one, that is, God. (KJV)" If Jesus, Who was without sin, gave the glory and honor to God how much more should we who were found with sin, and would be dead to it if not for Jesus, give glory unto our heavenly Father? Every good thing that we have whether it be special spiritual giftings, high intelligence, wealth, etc. should not put us in a place of feeling superior to another but rather should humble us at the goodness of God in lives and place in us a desire to glorify Him out of a grateful heart...
