25 Days of Christmas - Day 20

It [love] is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not
rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]."
1 Corinthians 13:5

Jesus said in John 14:9 that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father. Jesus walked in God's love and is our example to follow and to help us grab hold of just what God's love is like. The love we are to walk in is not one in which pride has any room. Just as Jesus did not go bragging about Who He was or what He had neither are we to do it either. When another doesn't think the way we think or have the same beliefs we do, we are not to beat them over the head with what we believe to be true. Rather we are to show the love of the Lord towards them, pray for them, be kind to them. There is so much discord going on between different denominations and this has to stop! Jesus says that "all men will know you are My disciples if you have love one to another (John 13:35)" yet how often do we see bickering going on even in the same denomination, never mind another denomination! Oh Lord, forgive us. It is time to walk in God's love the way we have been commanded to do! The world is in sorry shape and is need of a Savior but unless we present Him to them by abiding and walking in His love the world will refuse Him Who loves them so.

Jesus did not insist that the people believe in Him or that He was right in what He said. People drawn to Him because He displayed God in His love and His power. Freely people came to Him and as we walk in God's love and truth people will be drawn to us. Just as Jesus lead people to the Father and did not seek recognition for Himself we, too, are to lead people to the Father through the Son without looking for any self-acclaim. It's not about who is right. Study to shew thyself approved before God and allow others to do the same. What you might understand one day could be changed the next day, or week or years as the Holy Spirit sheds more light to God's Word in your heart. It's about Him Who made us right with the Father because of His sacrifice. It's about Jesus and getting to know Him and the Father more and more. It's about becoming transformed into their image by their Spirit that lives and abides in us.

I don't know about you, but there are certain things here about love that I know I have a lot of growing up to do to become more like Jesus. Today's verse tells us "it [love] is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong." Now, that is a mouthful right there! Love is not sensitive to things others might say about us, it doesn't worry what others might think nor it want to "get even" with those who hurt us. If we took a long, honest look at ourselves we would see how many times we have said hurtful things to others or where fear kept us from talking at all! Ah, to walk in the fullness of God's love, what a wondrous place to be, what a wondrous thing to bestow upon our brothers and sisters in Christ and to the world! Could you see if we did not become offended right away because of something that was said to us but rather we took the time to extend mercy to that person, to pray for them and trust God to hear our prayers. Rather than planning and scheming of ways to get back at others who have done evil to us what if we took the time to look at ourselves, the beam that abides in our eyes, and recognize how short we come from being perfect or without sin? Would be able to die for those who hurt us, disappointed us, ridiculed us? Jesus did and we are to walk in the same love that He did. Now none of us could become our Redeemer - only Jesus could do that. But we can die to the flesh, allow our hurts and the such to be placed at the foot of the cross and to allow ourselves to rise up in the love of God, the forgiveness of God to those who have hurt us. Who knows if we will ever reach the place of perfection while we live in these mortal bodies and this imperfect world but that is our goal, to know God by coming to know Jesus better and becoming like Him and walking in His love...
