Read the New Testament in Three Months
December 21 - 1 John 4 - 5
In these chapters John is telling us to not just take a person's word about something being from God but to test it against His Word, His will for our lives. Gnosticism was teaching that sin doesn't exist, rather it is man's lack of knowing. While there is some truth to the fact that we might not know what is sin, God has made it very clear for us by giving us His Word where we can learn what He considers sin and what isn't sin. God has given us the ability to overcome sin because of Jesus and His sacrifice, taking our mortal being, even spirit, and giving it the opportunity to become holy through the Holy Spirit which lives in us through the new birth given us when we believe on Christ Jesus who came to save us and restore us back to our Heavenly Father. Through Christ, that which had been lost in the garden through sin (Holy spirit) living just the spirit of man to abide in us had now been restored by Jesus in the new birth to where we can become holy as He is Holy. That is our journey upon the earth today, to become transformed into His image, amen? Amen.
John goes on to say how love is such an important part of our being. God is love and as we receive His love and walk by His Spirit we will learn to love as He loves. If we do not love our brothers and sisters in Christ, even those who do not know Him, then we have to question whether we are really His. Let us take a moment today, after reading these chapters, and let us ask ourselves whether we have received His love fully, do we understand His great love towards us and do we display it to others around us? If not, let us ask Him for help to do so, in Jesus' precious Name. Amen.
