Psalm 68:5 - Judge And Protector
December 13, 2007 05:41AM
"A father of the fatherless and a judge and protector of the widows is God in His holy habitation." Psalm 68:5

Most of us can relate to God as being a father from our own experiences with our earthly parents recognizing that our fathers were not perfect but at least have a point of reference to start with. Then there are those who have had fathers who lived with them but who did not fulfill the role of a godly father and for these it is much more difficult to relate to God as their father because of the indifference and/or abuse of their natural father.

Still yet, there are those who grow up not knowing a father at all. God did not desire that children grow up without their father in the natural. Even after He created Adam God saw the need for him (Adam) to have a helpmate, a companion and God took Eve out of Adam's rib, out of a place close to man's heart to be with man that they might become one in thought and purpose, fellowshipping one with another and with their Creator. It was in this atmosphere that God blessed them and told them to be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth [Gen. 1:28]. Today so much of God's instruction is ignored or considered out dated. But if we looked around us we would see the results of what happens when we do not see the wisdom of God's instruction and in following it. One point being that there are many who have grown up without a father because the one who fathered them in the natural did not see the coming together of man and woman as being a blessing from God with responsibilities ("Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh." Genesis 2:24 NOTE: A man was instructed to first get to the place where he could leave his father and mother (a place of maturity and responsibility) BEFORE they "become united...and become one flesh". But that is another topic.

Many today are raised without knowing their father either because the father skipped before they were born or sometime after their birth. Even others have lost their fathers through death or divorce. As these children grew up they might have felt abandoned, rejected, unloved and to relate to God being a loving Father, it is beyond their scope of experience. Even to those who have been raised by good fathers, there is yet to be found a father who is perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect and it is probably safe to say that we all have some kind of hurts or issues that have arisen in our lives because of our experiences with our earthy father. Over the next few days, or however long the Holy Spirit leads, we are going to focus upon a time of healing and forgiveness, a time of preparing our hearts of wholeness so that we can come to a place of knowing God's love for us, a place of closeness and thankfulness with our Creator, yes. But even more, a place of knowing our heavenly Father's love for us and being able to reciprocate a real love back to Him, one not hindered by anger or hurt or disappointment because of what we have experienced in our past.

Father, Your Word tells us that You are a father to the fatherless, that there is not a person who lives on the earth that does not have a father for You are the Father of all. Oh, Lord, how we need to know You as our Daddy God, how we need Your touch to heal us from past hurts and feelings of aloneness and rejection. Daddy, we especially lift to You those who have not know a father in their lives or who have been abused by these men who were supposed to protect them. Heal their hearts in Jesus' name we pray and embrace them in Your loving arms.

Father, there have been those who have not known their fathers because death took these men away from them when they were young. Their mothers were left widows and some have felt that You abandoned them, leaving them without a father, their mothers without their mates. Holy One, open their eyes, our eyes of understanding that we might see that we are in a spiritual battle and that there is a real enemy that steals, kills and destroys, especially if we are not mindful of his devices. There is so much we don't understand. Help us all and bring us to a place of greater understanding and a deeper trust in You, that Light will overcome the darkness in our hearts and in our minds so that nothing will hinder us from receiving You as our Father in all truth, in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
