John 14:6 - The Truth
January 07, 2008 08:02AM
“Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.” John 14:6

In a world filled with so many differing opinions, perspectives and beliefs one might agree and understand Pilate’s question posed to Jesus, “What is truth?” (John 18:38). How ironic that he would direct this question to Him, Christ Jesus, the only One Who professed to be Truth and Who demonstrated it in His life, death and resurrection. Praise be to God!

What is truth? Let us look at the many definitions of this word found in the Funk & Wagnalls Dictionary:

Truth - 1. The state or character of being true in relation to being, knowledge, or speech.
2. Conformity to fact or reality.
3. Conformity to rule, standard, pattern, or ideal.
4. Steadfastness; sincerity.
5. That which is true; a statement or belief that corresponds to reality.
6. Fact, reality.
7. A disposition to tell only what is true; veracity.
8. Fidelity; constancy.

As we read this definition of “truth” can we not see how Jesus is the Truth? It is not that He only spoke the truth, lived the truth but it is the fact that He is the Truth, the Word of God made man! While many have claimed to know the truth there is only One Who is the Truth and that is our Lord, Jesus Christ. As we read the written Word of God and draw closer to Christ Jesus in fellowship we see how God’s Word becomes Truth in our own lives. We see Jesus’ Words to be true, we see where they are fact. As we live them we realize that truly that which Jesus spoke is the pattern and ideal we need to live for it is God’s will for our lives. He has set them forth first for our relationship to be restored to our heavenly Father and, secondly, so that we could have a “more than abundant life” here and in eternity which can only be found through Christ Jesus!

There is a world out there filled with people seeking to find truth. Their spirits hunger because there is a void in them that seems to only be temporarily filled when they see that which they thought was truth was really fallacy. There are many so called Christians sitting in the pews who have been taught false doctrines who can be easily swayed to deny Jesus in times of persecution and trials because they really don’t know Him Who is Truth. Many times in Scripture we read about a man as in “knowing” her. We see in Matthew 1:25 how Joseph “knew her (Mary) not till she had brought forth her firstborn son:” and this is referring to “knowing” her intimately where they become one. We are to know Jesus, not in a physical way but in a spiritual way where we become one with Him. The more we know Him the more we recognize with a certainty that He is Truth and His truth lives and abides in us. Hallelujah!

Let us pray that all eyes will be opened to know Jesus as Truth and that truth can only be found in Him and through Him, in His name we pray. Amen and amen!

We are living in a day when the Holy Spirit is more than willing to teach us about Him Who is the Truth, Christ Jesus. The world seems to be turning topsy turvy yet we can stand firmly on Him Who is the Truth for in Him we have a firm foundation.

If we say we believe in Him, than we must believe what He has spoken and renew our minds to that which is Truth rather than that which the world would try to tell us. How can we share Him Who is the Truth with others if we ourselves do not believe He is Who He says He is? Today our faith is being tested. Is Jesus really Who He says He is? Do we believe that He is or do we just say we do? We really need to allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and reveal to us that which is hidden in there and then proceed to build ourselves up in Truth so that we will not be mislead by deception!
