“And on His garment (robe) and on His thigh He has a name (title) inscribed, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:16
Today we are going to look at the latter part of this verse, Jesus as “Lord of lords.” The word “lord” is defined in the Funk & Wagnalls Dictionary as ‘one possessing great power and authority.’ When Jesus walked the earth there were many who thought He would use His power and authority to free them from the Roman rule. They saw the miracles that Jesus performed and the authority of which He spoke. When Jesus did not fulfill the expectations they had of Him many turned against Him. Yet there is no doubt in the minds of those who believe in Him that Jesus is Lord of Lord and that there is no one who can compare with Him in power, authority and greatness. Even now, we are to allow His Lordship to be active in our lives, submitting to His will above our own.
The Old Testament speaks of the coming Messiah and we know the fulfillment of His coming is come to pass through Jesus Christ.. We are also aware that they are some prophesies that He is yet to fulfill and walking as Lord of lords upon the earth is one of them. In Deuteronomy 10:17 we read, “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, Who is not partial and takes no bribe.” Ah, in this day of seeing corrupt government being revealed before our eyes how refreshing and joyous it is to know that He is not one to be bribed, amen? Hallelujah! Jesus has not yet fulfilled His role upon the earth as Lord of lords but one day He will come riding on a white horse along with His troops of heaven (Revelation 19:11, 14). Oh, praise be to God!
Is there anyone like our Lord? No, there is no one! Who can compare to His brilliance and glory? There is not one! We exalt You, Oh Lord of lords! We give You all glory and honor and we submit to Your authority, desiring to follow after You and be Your people. Amen and amen!
