Acts 10:36 - Good News
February 05, 2008 07:40AM
“You know the contents of the message which He sent to Israel, announcing the Good News (Gospel) of peace by Jesus Christ, Who is Lord of all -” Acts 10:36

“Jesus Christ, Who is Lord of all.” That is a very powerful truth yet how often do we grasp on to the depth of its meaning? Perhaps we are more familiar with calling Jesus Lord as a description of His authority or rank in power much as we would think of the title “Governor” or “President”. While the word ‘lord’ does define one possessing great authority and power, it is not just given as a title to Jesus Christ, it is a statement of declaration of Who He is, “Lord of all.” Now George W. Bush is our President. Some are happy that this is the situation, some are not, , some adhere to the things he says and passes as law, some do not. Whether they are happy or not having Mr. Bush as our president, obedient or disobedient to the laws of this land they are held accountable to them. And so it is with our Lord Jesus Christ Who is Lord of all. One day they will have to face Him and give an account of their life, whether they believed in Him or not, followed after Him or did their own thing.

In 2 Philippians 2:9-13 we read: ‘Therefore [because He stopped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name. That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow; in heaven and on earth and under the earth. And every tongue [frankly and openly] confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete] your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.” Jesus is not only Lord of our lives, He is the Lord over all things “in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” Jesus has authority over all things, powers, principalities, etc. etc.. Praise be to God! That is why we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, not wanting to offend or disobey our Lord anymore than a godly and righteous man should offend or disobey the president of our land who is walking in the ways of God for we will be accountable for our actions one day (“Behold, I am coming soon, and I shall bring My wages and rewards with Me, to repay and render to each one just what his own actions and his own work merit” Revelation 22:12).

Yes, we are to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, stepping away from anything that might offend God and discredit the name of Christ but we are not to do it in our own strength! God, through Christ Jesus, is in us to place His desires and will in our hearts. Glory to God! As we surrender our lives to Jesus’ Lordship we recognize that He is Lord of our very lives and therefore has authority over every aspect of our lives for HE IS LORD OF ALL. There is nothing that Jesus does not have authority over. Are you tempted by drugs? Jesus is Lord over all and He can help you overcome drugs if you surrender to His Lordship. Are you addicted to pornography? Jesus can strengthen you to overcome the lusts of this world. As Lord over all He can help you become an over comer of every situation. Do demons torment you? Jesus is Lord over all and demons cower in His presence. The authority He has He has given to you and me. We must learn to use it for His Spirit abides in us and enables us to be the people of His Lordship, people walking in the glory of God to God’s glory. Amen? Amen.

Jesus is the Lord of all, the Lord over everything and every circumstance. And those who believe in Him are called to be His co-heirs. Don’t you think it’s time that we do this and that we take back that which the enemy has stolen? “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). Let us walk as His people, recognizing His power and might and His strength that abides in us, and show Him to be Lord of all in our lives and through our lives. In Jesus’ name, let it be so. Amen.
