Isaiah 9:7 - Eternal
February 19, 2008 08:28AM
v 7 “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” {Isaiah 9:6-7}

Have you ever looked into the night sky with all it’s stars and tried to image where the end of the universe was, and then what’s outside of the end of the universe, for surly in our earth bound minds there has to be something beyond the beyond. Eternal is like looking into the night sky and with our mouths we can say the word or words but with our minds we cannot comprehend anything so vast, so endless. There are some people who believe that we can have eternity here on earth. One thing that comes to mind is the ‘eternal’ flame in Arlington cemetery honoring President Kennedy. This ‘eternal’ flame had a known beginning and will have an end. This is not true of our Lord Jesus who is timeless {forever eternal}. Jesus has always existed with God the father {John 1:1-2 - in the beginning …}, exist now, and will exist forever.

Eternal, eternity, timeless, forever, ever more, everlasting, these are all concepts that have the same meaning and that we as humans just cannot understand, no matter how hard we try or how much we meditate on them. II Peter 3:10 reads “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” In this day of the Lord, I believe that we will finally understand “eternal” as we prayerfully spend “eternity” in the presence of our Lord then let all of us say with a strong voice Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

{Revelation 4:8 “And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”} Amen and Amen.
