Prayer for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

Afgânistân, officially the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is a landlocked country that is located in the heart of Asia. It is variously designated within Central or South Asia, as well as the Middle East. It has religious, ethno-linguistic, and geographic links with most of its neighbours. It is largely bordered by Pakistan in the south and east, Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the north, and the People’s Republic of China in the far northeast. The name Afghanistan means the "Land of Afghans".

Afghanistan is a culturally mixed nation, a crossroads between the East and the West, and has been ancient focal point of trade and migration. It has an important location, connecting South Asia, Central Asia and Middle East together. During its long history, the land has seen various invaders and conquerors, while on the other hand, local entities invaded the surrounding vast regions to form empires for themselves. Ahmad Shah Durrani created a large empire in the middle of the eighteenth century, with its capital at Kannahar. Subsequently, most of its territories were ceded to former neighboring countries. In the 19th century, Afghanistan became a buffer state in “The Great Game” played between the United Kingdom and Tsarist Russia. On August 19, 1919, following the third Anglo-Afghan war, the country regained full independence from the United Kingdom over its foreign affairs.


Prayer:

Glorious Father, today I bring before your throne the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. You know that the followers of Islam have been deceived. Their ears have been stopped from hearing and their eyes have been blinded to the glorious truth of your only begotten son, Jesus.

Open their hearts so that they may come unto full repentance and acceptance of who you are. Anoint them with the oil of gladness and cloth them in the mantle of praise and worship, let this be to your honour and glory. Amen.

Dear Lord, many have been deceived by the enemy. Father, we know Your hear's desire is that none would be lost. You do not hate those who follow after Islam but You do desire that they would know the Truth and that the Truth would set them free. Joining together with my husband's prayer, we ask that You would help them come to full repentance and acceptance of Who You are and that truly this will set them free and bring them to a place of great joy and gladness through Christ Jesus.
