The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is an English-speaking nation consisting of two thousand cays and seven hundred islands that form an archipelago. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean, east of Florida and the United States, north of Cuba and the Caribbean, and northwest of the British overseas territory of the Turks and Caicos Islands.Geographically The Bahamas are not part of the Caribbean archipelago which starts at Trinidad in the South East and ends at Cuba.
Although the area may have been populated previously, the seafaring Taino people moved into the Southern Bahamas around the seventh century from Hispaniola and Cuba. These people came to be known as the Lucayans. There were an estimated forty thousand Lucayans at the time of Columbus' arrival.
Bahamian Lucayans were later taken to Hispaniola as slaves; in two decades, many Lucayan societies ceased to exist, as the population endured considerable forced labour, warfare, disease, emigration and outmarriage. After the Lucayan population was eliminated, the Bahamian islands were virtually unoccupied until the English settlers came from Bermuda in 1647. The Eleutherian Adventurers established settlements on the island of Eleuthera.
The Bahamas is an independent country and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Political and legal traditions closely follow those of the United Kingdom.

Precious Lord I lift up the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Only you know were the people came from after the flood to populate these islands and only you know the hearts of the people, whether they be followers of your son, our Lord Jesus or your and therefore our enemy, Satan.
Bless the people that are yours and bring into your sons’ fold those that repent of their sins and turn from their wicked ways. This I pray in the sweet name of Jesus, amen.

Yes Lord, only You know the hearts of man. Holy One, we ask for Your mercy and grace to cover this area. Reveal Yourself to the people there, softening their hearts that they might receive Your Son, Christ Jesus, and turn to You through Him. May the come to know the goodness of their heavenly Father and of the One Who came to save them and restore them back in relationship with You, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
