Prayer for the Republic of Burundi
September 11, 2007 09:09AM
The Republic of Burundi, is a small country in the Great Lakes region of Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda on the north, Tanzania on the south and east, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the west. Although the country is landlocked, much of its western border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika.

There was a well prepared genocide against Hutu population in Burundi in 1972 and an estimated 250,000 Hutu and moderate Tutsi died. Those who participated in that genocide are free after the current government of Burundi continue to urge all the people to forgive each other on all of the killings. There have been other mass killings against the Hutu population

The largest religion is Roman Catholicism (62%), followed by indigenous beliefs (23%) and a minority of Protestants (5%) and Muslims (10%). The Anglican Church of Burundi claims over 10% of the population as members and recent reports indicate the Christian population may be as high as 90% with most of the remainder being Muslim.

Prayer:

Almighty Father, we as you weep over the loss of so many of your people. The land the Republic of Burundi was given by you for the feeding and caring of your people but as humans, they rebelled against you and thus themselves. These latest killings are but the tip of the “ice burg” as far as the shedding of innocent blood goes.

My Father please forgive them and set a right heart in all the people, in Jesus’ name I pray amen.

Heavenly Father, our hearts weep for the loss of life in this land. Holy One, please allow Your Spirit to hover over this land and touch the hearts of the people there. May they turn back to You through Your Son, Jesus' Christ and seek to be one with Him for Your glory, in His name we pray. Amen.
